  • Juror: Jean Grunewald - Learn More  https://www.jeangrunewald.com/aboutMember of PSA, OPA, ISA, AAEA and WPSE (off and on)
Jean was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was encouraged by her father a classically trained artist. So at an early age she started drawing, painting and winning awards. Inspired, she went on to receive a Fine Art Degree; began taking art classes at VCU (RPI) In Richmond, VA. While painting she listens to books on tape....always learning and studying art and artist. Her favorites the old illustrators. Since she has moved 19 times and traveled the world, this has allowed her great diversity in her art careers from teaching art in schools and workshops; being an editorial cartoonist for the VIP newspaper; designing commercial art renderings for Exxon and neon signs for other business; painting Portraits; executing large "Trompe L'Oeil" wall murals in many Atlanta, GA homes; floral designing and Plein Air in California, painting everything(vineyards, waterfalls, farms/ranches, parking lots).  After living in California, she was mainly interested in Plein Air painting and is known to paint in any weather! One of her very favorite place's to visit is the Irvine Museum featuring the California impressionist. Now living in North Carolina, Jean has gone back to portraiture, figures, animals and always color studies in plein air and still life. For the next challenge she is planning on designing paintings with multiple figures and recording in still life precious things she is tossing out but still loves.  Jean is mainly a representational or impressionist painter of almost everything. Lately she is obsessed with lost line and a bit more abstraction.  Always at the ready for a new challenge!
